Where were we in this mess? I started taking 2.5 mg of Femara on cycle days 5 through 9. I then got a yeast infection, then an awful cold/cough that lasted almost two weeks. I was pretty sure this cycle was a complete bust.

Did you see that? I had a positive OPK yesterday. A temperature shift is the only way to verify that I actually ovulated and that will take a few days to show up. I don’t know why I’m leery about getting excited about this. Probably because I’ve had positive OPKs before and didn’t ovulate, verified by blood work. My OPK was considerably lighter today. Wait, wait, wait yet again.

We’ve been baby dancing at the right time so hopefully I ovulate from the right ovary. Did you know that my left Fallopian tube is completely blocked? Oh, I just wish I was more hopeful. Years of disappointment will do that to a person.

On a lighter note, we went to a wedding last night and got the weirdest advice on getting pregnant. My cousin announced that his wife is 16 weeks after trying for six years. He knows we’ve been trying for a long time and decided to impart some extremely inebriated wisdom. “Let it soak.”. I’ll just let that sink in. His wife was embarrassed and K and I just laughed. He said that was what worked for them. Ah, don’t you love how a person’s filter disappears with a few drinks?

We’ve stepped up our game a little bit for these last few cycles. I’m taking Clomid (50 mg on CD 5-9) which I’m sure won’t work because it has only worked once out of the dozen or so times I’ve taken it before. My doctor decided he wanted to try it again before I went to injectables. Injectables…hah, not ever gonna happen. That is a step, while fine for others, isn’t right for me.

So I’m doing the Clomid this cycle, then moving on to Femara. I ordered it from this website and am waiting for it to arrive. I know what you’re gonna say about ordering from overseas without a prescription. I’ve heard it all. I’ve done my research on this company and feel the benefits outweigh the risks. Plus, it was only $47 for 50 2.5mg tablets. That’s enough for 5 cycles if I take 5mg a day. (Yes, cost was an issue.)

I never would have considered doing this if we weren’t feeling kinda desperate. I know that this may not work but if we don’t do this, I would always wonder if this was the thing that would have been “it”.

I’m lucky to be going to a small American Indian school. They seem to be very vested in their students. I’m assuming this is the case since most of the students are native and the tribe benefits greatly by ensuring that the students get their degrees.

I’m taking Algebra, Biology, English and Oral Communications. I’m finding the classes challenging already but not over my head. And if I would ever have problems, I know I could use their free tutoring service.

I have to admit that I am worried that I may have bit off more than I can chew though. I hope that it’s just because it’s only the first two weeks. But with work, school, homework, housework and trying to spend time with my family, I’m feeling a little overwhelmed. Especially Monday and Tuesday, where I’m gone all day and don’t see K until I crawl into bed at night. I haven’t told K that I feel this way. I’m hoping it’s just part of an adjustment period.

And yes, we are still trying to have a baby. I have a post scheduled for tomorrow to update you and that front.

This is why I don’t post about trying to get pregnant. Because every other month or so, one of these comes along.

I did have egg-white cervical mucus Tuesday night which is the whole reason why I am now waiting for the Bactrim to kick in. I didn’t think honeymoon cystitis was supposed to show up 2 1/2 years after the honeymoon.

Well, if I did ovulate (I won’t know because I didn’t bother charting this month), I hope we got it that one night. I am not putting myself through this again until I call my doctor for a refill. And I will keep the Rx bottle and a water bottle by my bed so I can remember to take it.

I am really sucking at losing weight right now. I am just not motivated to eat right or exercise. I think these weekly weigh ins are not much of a motivator for me. I need to start getting up when K does at 5:30 to work out. If I tell myself I’ll do it later in the day, I always find something more pressing to do.

Anyway, I’m disappointed this week….again.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is my front entryway. We have decided to redo it.

It needs a lot of work. Those tiles are asbestos laid over tar paper on top of what was once a beautiful hardwood floor.

We had to tear out this ugly built in dresser type thing. That’s why it’s part white and part nicotine stained teeth color. K and the starter wife had already ripped the trim from around the door when they replaced the door many, many moons ago.

As you can see, the floor is in bad shape. We would refinish it but there is lots of water damage. We haven't decided on laying down ceramic tile or laminate flooring.

But before we can do the floor, we have to replace some floorboards that were ripped out. Do you see how much I care about this entryway right now? I don't even clean it properly.

We of course have to replace the light fixture. What a lovely piece of craftsmanship. The cobwebs really set it apart.

We also have the inside of a mail slot that no longer exists on the outside.

There were two holes in the plaster wall that had so much cold air blowing in that I needed to do a stop gap repair. Don't you love the camouflage duct tape?

Pay attention to this light switch. It's very important. It was covered in duct tape when K first moved in and he never bothered with it.

So we tore out the dresser thing and pulled up the tile. We made plans to gut this completely in February or March and put in a bench with storage. I picked out a few ideas for it and put them on Pinterest.

Well that silly little light switch was a huge problem. Ken couldn’t figure out what it was for. It’s wires ran to an old fuse box that seemed to be disconnected. Seemed to be. So Ken pulled the wire out that ran from the switch to the fuse box.

Everything seemed fine until Frick said the washing machine wasn’t working. Well, it turns out nothing was working in the basement. It turns out that fuse box was connected to everything in the basement except the main light, the dryer and two outlets. And that switch that didn’t do anything was working like a circuit switch for everything connected to the fuse box.

It was a good thing those two outlets work because we needed major things to have power. The washer, freezer, sump pump and water heater.

K tried to fix it but no go. His buddy Kevin is coming over on Wednesday to look at it. I hope this doesn’t turn into something expensive because we just won’t have the money for it.

What I don’t understand is why the previous owner didn’t put this whole circuit with the breaker box when they installed that? Luckily, it won’t be too much trouble for us to do that. Plus we can add lights where we need them.

Well that was our day. Hope yours was better.

I know I never did a Christmas post but our Christmas wasn’t really worth blogging about it. It was uneventful. I will put up a year recap in the next day or two.

So I’m a day late with this post. I just forgot. Or it could be that I was just feeling so fat and yucky yesterday that my subconscious made me skip it. I’m not to disappointed considering it was the holidays and I ate like a little piggy and didn’t exercise much.

So while I haven’t lost any weight yet, I’m pleased because I only gained a pound overall. Not bad for someone who has been very bad at getting and staying motivated to eat well and exercise.

So, K and I have a friend who is always going on about how wonderful this hand scrub stuff is that she gets from Avon or Mary Kay or one of those companies. I tried it and it works really well. I just don’t want to pay for something like that. So I decided to make my own.

It is fantastic. I love how soft my hands feel. I can’t stop rubbing my hands together. K even commented on their softness and he doesn’t normally notice that stuff. Super easy to make and you already have the two ingredients on hand.

Here’s the recipe so you can pamper yourself a little bit.

Homemade Hand Scrub

1/2 cup brown sugar
enough oil to make a paste (I prefer olive oil but if you don’t like the smell you can use baby or almond oil.

Mix ingredients together in a small bowl. Apply to hands and rub all over hands like you are washing them. Rub for about a minute. Wash off with a mild soap and lukewarm water.
